Wagheshwar is a submerged shiva temple, in Pawana dam, near Pune. Built in 1971, Pawana dam backwater caused the submerging of ancient shiva temple, wagheshwar. Surrounded by hills, and villages such as Ajivali, Javan and vagheshwar, the temple was at the crossroads of the ancient routes crisscrossing the region. The forts of Tung and Tikona are on either sides of this temple. The temple is east facing. It gets submerged in the water and is accessible only when the water level in the dam drops down substantially. Now it has ruins. As the temple is accessible in some months of the year, villagers have maintained it to the extent possible. The interiors are intact. Outer sections have collapsed. The temple is surrounded by Virgals (stones of warriors), Vrindavans, and memory stones. The Nandi is large, it is now ruined but still recognizable. There are two lord ganesha idols inside. It is said that the temple was always visited by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in his visit to the region.

पुण्यापासुन ५० कि.मी. अंतरावर पवना धरणाच्या किनारी वाघेश्वर गाव वसले आहे. १९७१ साली धरणात वाघेश्वर चे पुरातन मंदिर बुडाले. देऊळ हेमांडपंती आहे. देऊळ धरणाच्या पाण्यात बुडालेले असते. फक्त दुष्काळी काळात देऊळ पाण्याबाहेर येते. तेंव्हा देवळात जाता येते. देवळात शिव पिंड आहे. दोन गणेश मुर्ती आहेत. देवळाचा अंतर्भाग अजुन शिल्लक आहे. परंतु बाहेरच्या भागाची पडझड झाली आहे. देवळाचा गाभारा खचला आहे. देवळाचे दगड विखुरलेले आहेत. विरगळी, शिला, वृंदावने देवळाभोवती विखुरलेली आहेत. देवळासमोर जुन्या पायऱ्या, दोन छोटे बुरुज आहेत. वृंदावनावर व देवळासमोर जमिनीवर मराठीतले जुने शिलालेख आहेत. तीन बाजुने देऊळ डोंगराने घेरले गेलेले असुन त्याचे प्रवेशद्वार पुर्वेस आहे. देवळातुन तुंग व तिकोना किल्ले दिसतात.
